▼About

He begins with an idea and then it becomes something else.

Currently based in Singapore and affectionately known to his friends as HAO, he likes to dabble with illustrations and fuse them into contemporary art. Having an eye for detail and a superlative attitude, his works consist of a variety of art styles and he gains inspirations from everyday people and life which are translated into his design works. He has also created an alter ego of himself in the form of a metamorphic creature in a visionary universe that is in search of discovering and creating dialogues with his audience. Strangely enough, he likes to sleep but unfortunately that is not a privilege he has.

And oh, he likes to craft things into beautiful and wonderful works of art too.

Have You Moo Yet?

Very few milk products for kids stand out from the shelves in the market, thus it will be interesting to create one that is visually appealing and attractive for them. Using a colour coding system to differentiate the flavours and also creating patterns based on the logo shape, this makes the product stands out from
its competitors. Promotional brochure also includes a fun activity for kids to play.

Proposed visual identity, packaging and campaign for a kid's milk product.
Promotional items include: stickers, button badges, brochure, motion graphics, ambient and environmental media.

Not So Easy One Leh

Proposed public service awareness campaign using persuasive tactics to raise awareness about internet safety and security in Singapore through the use of interactive postcards.

Singlish is choosen as the form of communication due to its local identity which binds Singaporeans together. Printed as a speech bubble conversation, the receiver will have to interact with the postcard by tearing away the upper portion to reveal the real message. This makes the audience connect to the original message of "not so easy one leh" in a sense that it's actually very easy how internet security is breached.

▼Type

Untitled

A whimsical approach to say art is abstract. Saying it bluntly is literally making an understatement. This print proves otherwise. The only way we can appreciate it is to see it with a different perspective. For the uninitiated, using a mirror to view this print helps too.

Penstik

This display font typeface is constructed using different parts from a traditional wooden pencil. Each pencil is broken into smaller pieces, scanned and converted digitally. It would be interesting to see the tool in our daily life becoming a typeface which everyone can relate to. It gives the impression of a sketchy yet clean feel to this font. Sleek like a stick, thus the given typeface name.

Download the font HERE. (PC & MAC compatible)

Franklin Gothic

Optical illusion is implemented in the type specimen book jacket to create a visually interesting appeal. The book is colour-coded to differentiate the chapters and also to break away from traditional type specimen books.

Hermann Zapf

Layout design incorporating 2 languages for text setting for a harmonious look and feel.

Save For A Rainy Day

Using coins as the form for type setting, a proposed advertising campaign for POSB using experimental typography is created by the use of a
non-manipulated photograph.

The Visionary Ephemeral Of An Unfathomable Odyssey

This visionary world is wonderfully to be delighted in, and highly to be esteemed, because this moment exhibits infinite space, but there is a space also wherein all moments are infinitely exhibited, and the everlasting duration of infinite space is another region and room of joy and laughter. There's a communal knowing that a dimension of reality exists beyond the material plane, and that sense of knowing is causing a mystical resurgence on the universe. It's not just children who are looking for a missing piece. It is also a question to the nature of our reality.

The Legend Of Toi.let

What would it feels like if there are no toilets anywhere in the world for us to use one day?
Think about it. We use the toilet everyday that subconsciously we have taken them for granted.

Out of the so many historical facts about the toilet, one would be astounded to read about interesting and humorous aspects of it. How would an audience 1000 years from now interpret these? Will they still be using toilets by then and if so, how would they look like? The subject here has a very colorful story behind its history. By using black and white, these 2 archaic colors can be easily interpreted by the audience to relate to its past and future, at the same time invoke thinking and emotions in them.

A self-initiated project, be intrigued by the little gritty facts and stories about the place you can’t do without.

290509   A Nice Set Singapore exhibition

Achtung! "A Nice Set" is the name of the exhibition where by an appropriately portioned 33 and 1/3 artists to customize a pair of blank DJ slipmats; the dimensions of the canvas are their only constraints. Exhibited at Hacienda.

A slipmat is a circular piece of slippery cloth or synthetic materials disc jockeys place on the turntable platter instead of the traditional rubber mat. Unlike the rubber mat which is made to keep hold the record firmly in sync with the rotating platter, slipmats are designed to slip on the platter, allowing the DJ to manipulate a record on a turntable while the platter continues to rotate underneath. This is useful for holding a record still for slip-cueing, making minute adjustments during beatmatching and mixing and pulling the record back and forth for scratching.
